Death, when correctly written and handled, can make for a poignant and memorable moment in the cinema.

But there are times when outstanding characters are murdered in horrific ways, and their deaths become memorable for all the wrong reasons. So let’s dig up some bad memories by looking at 15 great movie characters with disappointing deaths.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

15.

Llewelyn Moss — No country for old men

Miramax Movies / Via YouTube

After dodging death at the hands of ruthless hit man Anton Chigurh, protagonist Llewelyn Moss meets his end off-screen at the hands of some Mexicans chasing him. Josh Brolin played great as Moss with a moral conflict, so it was a shame for everyone that he met such a tragic fate just 20 minutes before the end of the film. This death was unexpected and even unsatisfactory to many, but it helped emphasize the theme of the film, how unpredictable life can be. Although this film won several Oscars, Moss’ death showed that it was never intended to appeal to everyone.

14.

Darwin- X-Men: First Class

20th Century Studios / Via YouTube

This has been the subject of recent debate. Darwin is a mutant who can adapt to survive anything, but despite this, the writers simply killed him after Shaw forced a blast of energy into his mouth. His death was clearly meant to show how strong a villain Shaw was, but Darwin wasn’t just a super-powered mutant. He also had a strong presence that could have made him a leader of the team, similar to Cyclops.

13.

Boba Fett- Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi

Lucasfilm / Via YouTube

Although he didn’t have many rules or a lot of screen time, Boba Fett was one of the most popular characters in Star Wars† Even if his character wasn’t as great as he was killed in Return of the Jedi was still faint. The cool and skilled bounty hunter was defeated when a blind Han Solo accidentally hit his jetpack, sending him flying into the Sarlacc pit. Besides, the Sarlacc makes his death no more than a joke after devouring him to burp him. We can all be glad that this death was recently recaptured.

12.

Elizabeth Shaw- Alien: Covenant

20th Century Studios / Via YouTube

although Prometheus was not the most adored Alien After watching the protagonist, Elizabeth Shaw, survive all the horrors of the film, audiences still wanted to see more of her adventures exploring the origins of humanity in the sequel. However, just like Covenant removed the alien engineers set up in the previous film, it also had Shaw killed off-screen by the evil android, David, an ending that was a total disservice to her character.

11.

David Dunn- Glass

Universal / Via YouTube

This movie wasn’t meant to give everyone a happy ending, but it didn’t stop there Glass from a disappointing audience. In the third act of this film, David, Kevin and Elijah Price are all murdered by a secret organization that tries to hide the existence of superhumans. David’s death by drowning had a lot of significance, given the character’s weakness for water, but it still felt unsatisfactory to many to see him killed by an unnamed henchman.

10.

General Hux — Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker

Lucasfilm / Via YouTube

General Hux was a notable villain in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, as he was a menacing and zealous leader of the First Order who was deeply committed to its cause. So not only did he become a spy for the Resistance to hate Kylo Ren and seem so strange to him, his merciless and almost comical execution by General Pryde was a fate not befitting such an excellent adversary.

9.

Mysticism — Dark Phoenix

20th Century Studios / Via YouTube

In a movie full of problems, probably the most controversial aspect of Dark Phoenix Mystique’s death was while she was trying to help Jean. Since Mystique was a hero in the eyes of many mutants, her demise had the potential to be so much more. However, it was glossed over for the rest of the film, only really having a lasting impact on Beast and Magneto. What ruined her death even more was how the trailers spoiled it to captivate audiences to see the film, making it seem more like it was done for mere shock value.

8.

Martin Brody — Jaws: The Revenge

Universal / Via YouTube

Simply put, the fourth jaws movie is just a giant mess. The idea that a shark would take revenge on Martin Brody’s family and follow them to the Bahamas is ludicrous. Roy Scheider dodged a shark-shaped bullet when he refused to star in this film. But instead, his character, Martin, was killed off-screen at the beginning of the film, who was revealed to have died a long time ago from a heart attack caused by his fear of sharks.

7.

Laurie Strode — Halloween: Resurrection

Miramax Movies / Via YouTube

This iconic last girl had a ridiculous and unsatisfying ending in the first act of Halloween: Resurrection† After killing a man she mistook for Michael Myers (which was a horrible retcon to make a sequel), she spends her last days in a mental hospital before being hunted by Michael. Although she set a trap for Michael and manages to catch him on the roof of the hospital, she made the foolish mistake of taking his mask to make sure it was Michael. She is then stabbed and thrown off the roof in a death defense from her character.

6.

Captain Kirk — Star Trek: Generations

Paramount Pictures / Via YouTube

How do you kill one of the most famous characters in science fiction history? “Have him crushed by a bridge” they thought for Captain James T. Kirk as they made the seventh Star Trek movie. Not only does this death not suit such an iconic figure, but it was soiled even more by Shatner’s poor acting, with the way he says “oh my,” the final nail in the coffin.

5.

Newt — Alien 3

20th Century Studios / Via YouTube

One of James Cameron’s most striking aspects Aliens was the surrogate mother-daughter dynamic between Ripley and Newt. Audiences were delighted to see them make it through the film alive, but when David Fincher’s sequel began, we learn that she and Hicks died when their ship crashed, making the journey to protect her feel like it was all for nothing. .

4.

Cyclops — X-Men: The Last Stand

20 Century Studios / Via YouTube

In Fox’s first attempt at filming “The Dark Phoenix Saga,” the studio disappointed the audience by killing Cyclops in the first act of this film. His shortened role in the film was due to actor James Marsden having scheduling conflicts with Superman is coming back, so the decision to kill him was understandable. However, the writers could at least have come up with a better death for the character who, aside from the professor, was the leader of the X-Men. They could still have accomplished this by passing the baton to Wolverine in his final moments.

3.

Sarah Connor- Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Tri-Star Photos / Via YouTube

Although the Terminator movies portrayed John Connor as the savior of mankind, his mother, Sarah, was arguably the real protagonist of the franchise. She was a strong and loving mother who would do anything to protect her son, and she always looked cool. But after two films about surviving attacks from the Terminators, it was unfortunate to see her die off-screen from leukemia, and her character deserved a much better broadcast.

2.

curse – The Dark Knight Rises

Warner Bros. / Via YouTube

Tom Hardy’s Bane is one of the most menacing villains seen in recent cinema. Thanks to his overwhelming strength and intellect, he broke the Bat, imprisoned the people of Gotham in the city and unleashed complete anarchy on them for over a year. But after it was revealed that Bane was merely a servant to the real villain, Talia al Ghul, he was cast aside as he was suddenly shot and killed by Catwoman.

1.

John Connor- Terminator: Dark Fate

Paramount Pictures / Via YouTube

dark fate could have been the movie that saved the Terminator franchise after its many failed sequels. But in the opening minutes of the film, dark fate incited everyone against it by killing John Connor. After all those movies spent time setting up John as the hero who would lead humanity to victory against the machines, this movie threw it all away. Seriously, in hindsight, they should have just ended the franchise after that Judgement day
