“NTRA” fines mobile companies 17 million pounds for violating service quality standards

The National Center for Quality Control of Telecommunications Services of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority “NTRA” issued its report for the results of measurements for the fourth quarter of 2021 (the period from October to December 2021).

The report presents the indicators of the quality of voice and internet services provided by telecom companies operating in the Egyptian market, where tests were conducted to measure the quality of mobile phone services for 81 regions (city and district) for each operator. The measurement methodology is based on testing samples of calls and data transfers to determine the quality of services Communications, using measuring equipment and vehicles, as the measurement distances reached 115 thousand km on the main and secondary roads of cities and villages during the fourth quarter of 2021.

Indicators of the quality of voice services:

Call Not Initiated Indicator: This indicates the percentage of unsuccessful attempts to initiate the call.

Call Incomplete Index: This indicates the percentage of calls that experienced a technical outage before the call was terminated by one end of the call.

The time required to start the call indicator indicates the percentage of calls that require a long time (seconds) from the time the customer pressed the call button until the call bell was heard at the other end.

Call Voice Quality Indicator Indicates how clear the voice is during a call.

Indicators of the quality of data transmission services in mobile companies:

Data Download Speed: The lowest data download speed detected for the lowest 10% of the measurement samples.

Data Download Speed: The lowest data download speed detected for less than 10% of the measurement samples.

It was observed that some regions suffer from violations of the indicators of the quality of voice services and the total violations in the fourth quarter of 2021:

Vodafone: Out of 81 areas (city and district) measurement tests were conducted on them, a total of 15 areas were monitored suffering from poor quality of voice services, led by the Delta, the Upper Egypt and the Canal, where 20 violations were monitored in 15 areas during the month of December 2021 compared to 25 violations 2021 in 21 regions during the month of October 2021.

Orange: Out of 81 areas (city and district) that were measured, 28 areas were monitored suffering from poor quality of voice services, led by Alexandria, Delta and Cairo, where 40 violations were detected in 28 areas during the month of December 2021 compared to 54 violations in 38 regions during the month of October 2021.

Etisalat: Out of 81 areas (City and Wahi) measurement tests were conducted on them, 29 areas were monitored suffering from poor quality of voice services, led by Cairo, Upper Egypt and the Delta. 36 violations were detected in 29 areas during December 2021, compared to 43 violations in 32 regions during the month of October 2021.

We: Out of 81 areas (City and Wahy) measurement tests were conducted on them, 37 areas were monitored with poor quality of voice services, led by Cairo, Upper Egypt and the Delta, where 46 violations were detected in 37 areas during the month of December 2021 compared to 76 violations in 56 regions during the month of October 2021.

Monitoring some regions suffering from violations of the quality indicators of data transmission services in the fourth quarter of 2021:

Vodafone: Out of 81 areas (city and district) that were measured, 40 areas affected by the poor quality of data transmission services were monitored during the month of December 2021, compared to 42 affected areas in October 2021, led by the Delta, Cairo and Upper Egypt, and the average data download was During the month of December 29 Mbit/s.

Orange: Out of 81 areas (city and district) that were measured, 34 areas affected by the poor quality of data transmission services were monitored during the month of December 2021, compared to the number of 30 affected areas in October 2021, led by the Delta, Cairo and Alexandria, and the average data download was During December 26 Mbit/s.

Etisalat: Out of 81 areas (city and district) that were measured, 17 areas affected by the poor quality of data transmission services were monitored during December 2021, compared to 20 affected areas in October 2021, led by Cairo, Upper Egypt and Giza, and the average data download During December 27 Mbit/s.

Wei: Out of 81 areas (City and Wahy) measurement tests were conducted on them, stability was monitored in the number of affected areas that suffer from poor quality of data transmission services (13 areas) during December 2021 compared to October 2021, led by Upper Egypt, Alexandria and Giza. Average data download for the month of December is 29 Mbit/s.
