Suns striker Mabior Chol spoke to Channel Seven after the game…
Q: Congratulations, the third biggest win in Gold Coast Suns history. Thank you for joining us.
A: Don’t worry, thanks for having me, it’s great. I don’t normally get a lot of media time so I enjoy this.
Q: We love it every time we talk to you. Last week you had 1.3 and we thought you contributed well, this week you had three before halftime. What happened?
A: That’s what I focus on, just my match and my follow up. I thought I did that pretty well last week, but I couldn’t get the reward out of it. I had a few shots on target, but I was really lazy with it. I was doing a lot of work during the week and trying to get my head around it. Today I was rewarded, after a really good match and follow-up, and that’s what I tested my game on.
Q: Tell us about the decision to leave the Tigers and come to the Gold Coast. You look so comfortable here and have added so much to the team, was it difficult? What was the turning point for you?
A: It was definitely a tough decision to leave the club that gave me the opportunity from the start and have so much confidence in me, but at the end of the day I sat down with my manager and I really wanted to think about it my future. I thought I had also taken the right step to come to Queensland. My family is there, there are more possibilities. I knew I wouldn’t be playing right away, I had to work really hard for my place. Just enjoy my footy, and it’s just awesome.
Q: You and Levi (Casboult) work really well together, how much work did you do for the season and now during the week when you go out? Because it’s not you who jump up and bring to the ground, or kick goals, it’s him. You seem to have a good combination.
A: It’s funny, we have a good connection, but during the preparation we didn’t really train much together. Just because he had a few niggles and I had to get my shoulder out of the surgery. We are doing really well together and I think, however, that there is a lot to look forward to in the future.
Q: You have a very good young midfield. We saw (Nick) Holman come by and wipe them out right in front. Who do you want to kick the ball to you?
A: There are many good players out there! I mean, look, we have a really good relationship with…
Q: You must name one!
A: Geez. Maybe (Matt) Rowell, you can’t go wrong there. We have a very good young midfield and they just show up every week and go to work. It was great with these guys and I love playing with them.
Q: You are naturally a nice kicker and you said you were a little lazy on the set shots in the evenings, so casual and relaxed, and the field kicks are beautiful too. It’s a real asset and something that seems to work well for you.
A: I mean I’m a very laid back guy once you get to know me. So it won’t surprise you how I play my footy. There may be a bit of slow motion, but I’m pretty fast there.
Q: And you’re staying here for a week, what are you looking forward to doing in the next few days? To get out what Darwin has to offer?
A: That’s something we’ve been looking forward to as a group, to be together and build that chemistry and bond that we’ve been working on all summer. It’s very hot, and I’d like to go to some rivers, but I’ll probably have to be careful with the crocodiles and stuff. I think there’s a group going to Tiwi, so it’s going to be really interesting. I would look forward to that if that happened.
