Steps to open a bank account through the National Bank of Egypt website

The Economy website presents the method and steps for opening a bank account through the website of the National Bank of Egypt.

This service is provided only to new retail customers to the bank who are residents in Egypt, over 21 years old, and have a valid National Identification Number (National Identification Number written in a valid passport is accepted “but the passport number is not accepted”).

This service isn’t available with power of attorney, for minors, as a gift account, and for people who can’t read or write.

To secure the original requested documents and obtain the physical signature in order to complete your request, the National Bank of Egypt offers two options:

Visit one of the National Bank of Egypt branches:

Visit one of the NBE’s e-branches: Choose the time and date to visit that branch. If, for whatever reason, you miss your appointment, or you did not pay the branch a visit within 10 working days from the day of your appointment, your request will be automatically canceled and you will have to apply again. Kindly note that instant debit card issuance, is available only in select branches (specified when selecting the e-branch you will be visiting)

Visit one of NBE’s traditional branches:

request to meet the Retail Banking Manager in person or whoever is on his behalf in the branch to direct you to the relevant colleague to speed up your application. If, for whatever reason, you did not pay the branch a visit within 10 working days from the day of submitting the request, your request will be automatically canceled and you will have to apply again
Request a personal visit from a bank employee (available only in select governorates).

This service is only available to senior citizens (60 years old and older), women, and individual with special needs (provided that they can see, hear, read and write). An employee will contact you on the mobile number you entered in the application request (within two working days) to arrange with you the date and time of the visit and inform you of the requested documents so you can prepare them with copies to proceed with the application.

If the employee couldn’t reach you or couldn’t arrange your appointment with you or you didn’t prepare the requested documents, your request will be automatically canceled and you will have to apply again.

Account Opening Steps:

Enter your NID and mobile number.
Enter the OTP sent to the mobile number.(taking into consideration not to disclose it to anyone)
Enter your email twice.
Enter OTP sent to that email (please check the Junk Folder) taking into consideration not to disclose it to anyone.
Enter the required Information for account opening request.
For signature submission and required document completion, please choose one of these options:
Visit nearest branches.
Request a personal visit from a bank employee. (T&C applied)
Mark “Check” on Terms and Condition (Reading and Confirmation).
You will receive an email on the entered email address to confirm your request. (Please check the Junk Folder in case you don’t find it in the inbox.)

Required Documents

A Valid National ID (NID / Egyptian passport with / including the NID).
Proof of residency, if the address on your NID does not match the one on the application request. This can be, for example, a utility bill (in your name and not older than three months (, ownership contract, etc.
Proof of employment, if it’s not the same as the one mentioned in the NID. Except for customers whose identification document does not include a specific profession or job, including but not limited to (a housewife, or an individual with a university or higher education degree and unemployed, or without work or any work that is difficult to prove) in accordance with the instructions for financial inclusion.
Proof of income, not older than one month (for example, pay slip, HR letter, pension print, etc.), a job license or a tax card for free professions, this is in case the profession is different from what is shown in the identity document, except for clients whose identity document does not include a specific profession or job, including but not limited to (a housewife, or an individual with a university or higher education degree and unemployed, or without work or any work that is difficult to prove) in accordance with the instructions of financial inclusion.
Egyptian birth certificate or valid Egyptian passport, if the birth country is not Egypt.
American Passport and Social Security Number, if customer has an American nationality.
Proof of residence, if customer has the right of residence in another country.
After your request submission, an email will be sent to the email address entered in the application request.
